On May 5, 1862, a group of poorly armed Mexican soldiers defeated thousands of well-armed professional French soldiers at Puebla, Mexico. "Cinco de Mayo", which means May 5th in Spanish, commemorates this victory. On this holiday, both Mexican and Mexican Americans celebrate the customs that are unique to Mexico with food, drink, music and dancing.
