French Bread

1 pkg. yeast
2 c. lukewarm water
1/4 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. sugar
5-6 c. flour

Add yeast to water; add salt and sugar, stirring until dissolved. Beat in flour, 1 cup at a time, with wooden spoon. Knead for 8-10 min. Brush with oil; let rise for about 1 hour. Turn onto floured board; shape into 2 loaves. Place loaves on oiled baking sheet which has been sprinkled with corn meal. Let stand 4 min.; slash loaves diagonally 4 or 5 times. Place in cold oven. Turn oven on 400º. Place pan of boiling water in oven. Bake until golden brown.
